During normal operation, solar can power the home and charge the batteries. After sunset, the home can operate from stored battery energy, with the utility grid available if additional power is needed.
During a grid outage, solar and batteries continue supporting the home. If battery charge eventually drops to a programmed level, a properly integrated generator can start automatically, support the home and replenish the batteries. Once the batteries reach the desired charge level, the generator can shut back down and the home returns to battery operation.
Traditional generator backup can mean running an engine continuously throughout an extended outage. An integrated battery-and-generator system provides another approach.
Your batteries can carry the home when stored energy is available. If the batteries get low and solar production isn't enough, the generator can step in, support the home's electrical loads and recharge the battery bank.
